This season, designers are using textures and prints to bring bomber jackets back to life.

Bomber jackets have always been a classic piece in a complete wardrobe, but 2013 has updated them in a sophisticated manner which confirms the fact they aren’t just for high schoolers and pilots anymore.

Lightweight cotton and silk bombers create a softer silhouette that is just right for the summer evenings and as the weather transitions to fall. The heavier leather ones are still James Dean cool, like from TIBI and Equipment (seen above), but are structured with a feminine touch. Two-toned bombers are casual chic, while printed ones can play up any outfit.

Used in editorials from Cosmopolitan to Vogue and seen all over the red carpet, caged sandals are the hottest shoes this season. Edgy, yet elegant – they take the classic summer staple up a notch with sexy straps. This fancy footwear may seem to err on the side of NSFW, but the right choice can work its way into your office wardrobe, as well as transcend any occasion and look amazing with pieces already in your closet. My favorite pick are these Pour La Victoire Natassja booties; great price, and the suede and soft grey make it subtly sexy.

At work, pair these pumps with a fresh toned jumpsuit (like the shoes, its a summer trend that can be dressed up for the office!) and throw over a slouchy black blazer to stay professional. Layer a long pendant necklace to keep the look proportional, and for serious business, tote your stuff around in a black leather messenger bag. On your days off, slip into the season’s usual go-to pant: white jeans. This time, however, rock the white boyfriend jeans! Opting for a silk graphic tee amps up the sophistication of this casual ensemble. It’s all the fun and youthfulness of a graphic tee, but the silk makes it sleek. Polish the look off with geometric earrings and a pastel messenger bag, and say hello to the summer weekend!
